Jacob’s Presents: North St. & Park St.

Jacob’s is a new and second-hand fashion store specialising in high end streetwear, and one of Bristol’s best rated barbershops. This is a series of two, 45 second adverts that we produced for them to distribute through their social media, giving them the option to post the full clips or break them down into 15 second pieces for paid spaces. The first video shows off their exclusive limited stock, and the second was created to establish the recognised Jacob’s brand into their new store’s location by placing their products throughout the area, going to iconic locations and showing footage from in the store.

The campaign was filmed across both of their shop locations, as well as throughout Bedminster, and time in studio, using a combination of Sony FS5 & Mini-DV footage and 35mm stills.

Working With The Clients

As producer, I led the liaising with Jacob’s, and when we first met, we were able to identify 3 main needs - demonstrate their quality stock, sell barbering as one of the main parts of the brand, and promote their new store on North Street. Initially, we planned this as 3 separate pieces, 30 seconds each, but after further discussion they wanted to have the fashion and barbershop videos as one piece, understandably, as they wanted to sell their brands products and services as one premium package. For the other clip, we wanted to establish the brand and what they have to offer, an already well known factor to their social media audience who we shared it with, as a part of their new surroundings in Bedminster, featuring figures in Jacob’s products walking around their new location’s iconic spots.

During the process, we created a number of test shoots and mood reels, as this was the most effective way of getting solid feedback; we demonstrated how we were going to use lighting, and movement in the fashion shoot, and editing and music in the shoots for the new store so we could create a sense of narrative without needing to do a full shoot first. We also filmed They were also keen on our idea of using older technology as part of the campaign, and a lot of the final North Street video was shot on Mini-DV to create a retro, “Throwback” feel that fits in with their brand image.
